used to stand in front of it on the green.

Moses Storkey - Landlord. (1795 -1854).
Moses owns the adjacent row of cottages known as Albert
Place. He is also a Town Councillor (M). In his
book, 'Bygones and Local Characters of Southwold',
Barrett Jenkins offers an interesting profile of Moses.

In the Census of 1851 Moses defines himself as 'Yeoman'
which, at tthe time, equates to 'landowner' and one
qualified to serve on juries. James Maggs, indeed,
records that he serves on a jury at an inquest held
at the 'Old
Swan' in Nov 1842 into the death of mariner Abraham
Girling who was 'knocked over the cliff and instantly
died' having been in a 'quarrell' with Foster Bokenham.
