Robert Moyes 1882-1959 In civilian life he was a liveried coachman to Sir Thomas Takon of Eye. He came to Southwold in 1911 and worked for Adnams Brewery for 23 years as foreman lorry driver before becoming Licensee of the Marquis of Lorne in 1933. He retired 22 years later in 1955. Ernest served the community as both a Special Constable and ambulance driver and was an active member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes which he had joined in 1919. He also worked as part-time chauffeur to Sir Ralph Blois, Sir Herbert Hambling and Sir Charles Tennyson. He was married to Nell for 51 years and they had five daughters.He is buried in Southwold Cemetary. (Extracted from an obituary in the local press)
