Becky Canham writes... No.76 High Street is where me and my three sisters all worked at some point over the years as waitresses. It was certainly called Miniver's during the late 70s through to at least the mid 80s. Firstly being run by, I think, John Law (he was well-known and used to often sit on a bench outside The Crown topping up his tan!!). In the late 80s it was run by Ruth Bryant (she used to be the cook at 'Mary's Restaurant' in Walberswick when that had been owned by Mary and Derek Allen). Then by 1990 it was renamed to The Honeypot being run by a couple from Diss (Mr and Mrs Beasley). I was 16 at the time and remember being horrified when Mrs Beasley said that what Southwold needed was a Woolworths!! |
