The shop is popularly known as 'Sophie's' after John's wife, Sophie Emily Turrell

1953
John Charles Turrell (CSP 1953). John dies in 1958 aged 73. His widow Sophie Emily sells the business to Arthur J Swan who already owns the wet fish shop at Nos 1 - 3 Church Street.

Note: Sophie dies 1 December 1973, aged 84, and is buried with her husband in St Lawrence churchyard, South Cove.
