Herbert Peck - Watchmaker. This year, as the Great Depression begins to bite, Herbert Peck and his young partner, Arthur Cragie agree that the business can no longer support both their families. Herbert Peck's shop window is broken one June evening by a brick wrapped in a bus timetable. The thief evidently meant to grab the contents of the window but, fortunately for Peck, the brick also broke the glass display shelf and most of the window display fell onto the floor, out of reach. The thief succeeded only in stealing a tray of signet rings. (Source: East Anglian June 8 1935)

Marian Brashier - 'Marian's' Art and Needlework Depot. Miss Brashier has traded in Southwold since 1908, first at No 11 East Street and then at No 29 Station Road and No 83 High Street before finally moving here. She is the first trader to occupy the shop since it closed for the War in 1940. (SRB1946)
